How to check
your vulva

Watch the video from @doctoramirkhan to understand what areas you should be checking.

We encourage you to check your vulva once a month. If you spot any new changes or you are worried about anything you have noticed, it is always best to get in touch with your GP Practice, The Orchard Centre or Choices, so anything serious can be ruled out.

Step by step

How to check your vulva

  1. Wash your hands

  2. Sit comfortably in a well-lit room or use a torch

  3. Place the mirror between your legs

  4. Start on the outside and look and feel for any pain, soreness, lumps, rashes or changes to your skin.

  5. Open the labia, look and feel for any pain, soreness, lumps, rashes or changes to your skin.

  6. Check around the opening to your vagina and your perineum (the area between the vagina and anus)
